Purchase link in bio. This is Chalfant's "Lee Futura Dondi" print which was published as part of the Beautiful Losers Portfolio. It depicts three of his most iconic images from his series of train photos during the 1970s and early 80s. This edition has sold out, but we are dropping this framed example. There is only one of these available. We used this piece for exhibition purposes after the edition was published. We are offering at the same price as the unframed piece.

Henry Chalfant is best known for his photography and films that captured graffiti and hip hop culture in New York City during the 1970s and 80s. During this period, with respect to graffiti and hip hop art and culture, New York was the center of the universe. Due to the quick turn-around and ephemeral nature of the art itself, Chalfant's photographs act as the only lasting proof of some of the most important graffiti art in history, and art that no longer exists. His work captures the essence of the movement and spirit of youth culture during these times. Chalfant has become a leading authority on subway art and co-produced the PBS documentary film, Style Wars with Tony Silver in 1984. He has also written books on the subject, including Subway Art, which he wrote with Martha Cooper in 1984. He has exhibited his work globally in galleries and museums including the landmark New York-New Wave show at PSl; Beautiful Losers (traveling); The Bronx Museum, New York, NY; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY, among others.

In 2020, Chalfant was the subject of a massive retrospective at the Bronx Museum of the Arts entitled: Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977-1987.
